HAC Reveals LIHEAP Funding for FY 2018

July 14, 2017 - The House Appropriations Committee (HAC) released their FY 2018 appropriations on Thursday, July 13. The appropriations committee revealed that the administration for Children and families (ACF), will be provided $30.9 billion. The bill includes $3.3 billion for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) program.

LIHEAP assists low-income households in meeting their immediate home energy needs, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high portion of their household’s income for home energy needs. LIHEAP also pays partial winter energy bills for eligible families and individuals. Payments are usually made directly to the local utility or vendor and benefit amounts are determined based on size and type of your home, as well as fuel type.

LIHEAP operates in every state and the District of Columbia, as well as on most tribal reservations and U.S. territories.
