HHS Releases More Than $670 Million for Energy Assistance

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on December 13 announced the release of more than $670 million to states, tribes and territories to help low-income families with their energy bills this winter.

These funds are in addition to the $1.854 billion in first quarter LIHEAP block grant funds that were released October 27 under the FY 2011 Continuing Resolution (CR). These funds are also released under the FY 2011 CR and allow all grantees (states, tribes and tribal organizations, and territories) to receive the remainder of their block funds, up to 100 percent of their total allocations at the $2.7 billion level.
