Energy Outreach Colorado Provides $1.17 Million for Energy Assistance

May 10, 2012 - Programs that help seniors, veterans and other low-income households pay their energy bills received $1.17 million from Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC).

EOC is distributing funds to its 129 partner agencies after Colorado's Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) stopped accepting applications May 1. These funds will provide assistance for low-income Coloradans in danger of having their home energy shut off this summer.

"Cuts in federal funding put more seniors and families at risk of having their energy shut off this past winter," said Skip Arnold, EOC executive director. "We have increased energy assistance funding by 20 percent and helped 17 percent more families and the requests for help keep coming."

EOC has been raising money since 1989 to help low-income Coloradans who still need assistance after receiving LEAP, who need assistance after LEAP closes for the season or who do not qualify for LEAP.
