Alaska State Funds

Alaska State Funds

  • State-funded Power Cost Equalization Program subsidizes the cost of electricity for LIHEAP households in remote areas with high electric rates.
  • Alaska has regularly provided general funds to supplement weatherization; however, in early 2008, the legislature approved dramatic supplemental state appropriations for the Weatherization Assistance Program and the Home Energy Rebate Program for all income levels for three years. Along with additional funding from corporate earnings from the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the weatherization grantee, additional funds were expected to increase the number of Alaska homes weatherized each year from 600 in 2007 to 7,500 by 2011.
  • Since 2009, the state-funded Alaska Affordable Heating Program (AKAHP), formerly known as the Alaska Heating Assistance Program, has provided payment assistance to those with incomes from 151 to 225 percent of FPG. The program received $5 million in 2010 and is expected to receive the same amount for 2011.
