September 12, 2019 – Missouri’s North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) will be receiving an additional $102,000 in federal funding for energy assistance. Missouri’s NECAC distributed over $400,000 in utility assistance between June 1 and August 28, 2019.
The funding was depleted as of August 28, distributed to the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP). The ECIP assists eligible households in paying overdue electricity bills of up to $300. Missouri’s ECIP provided assistance to 2,356 households in 2018.
The additional funding will help provide energy assistance for qualifying electricity customers in twelve of the Northeast Missouri counties. The program ends September 30, and the agency is urging households to apply as soon as possible.
Applicants must have received a utility shutoff notice, and meet other qualifications, to receive the energy assistance.
