New Iowa Program Assists Low-Income Utility Customers

October 9, 2020 – Iowa’s new residential utility program, the Residential Utility Disruption Prevention Program (RUDPP), will assist eligible utility customers with up to $2000 in assistance with their utility bills. Application for this program is open until November 20, 2020, or until funding is depleted.

A RUDPP applicant is eligible if they are a resident of Iowa, have unpaid utility bills, meet the annual income requirements based on family size and/or has experienced a loss of income (due to COVID-19) after March 17, 2020.

“For Iowans who lost their job or saw their paycheck shrink as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Residential Utility Disruption Prevention Program will help them keep the power on,” said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Benefit payments are paid directly to the utility company the amount will be applied to a customer’s account.
