New York HEAP Funding Will Provide Cooling Assistance to Vulnerable Households

May 5, 2017 – New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that $3 million dollars will be available through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) to provide cooling assistance to vulnerable New Yorker households.

Governor Cuomo says the summer heat can become an issue of life or death for some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers, and that this funding will help to ensure those vulnerable populations will remain safe and cool during the height of this season.

“By ensuring men, women, and children of all ages are protected from the dangers of hot and humid weather, this critical funding will support a stronger, healthier New York for all,” said Cuomo.

“It’s critical that we provide resources for our most vulnerable, which is why I am a strong supporter of the Low Income Home energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in congress. This funding is an important opportunity for those with health issues made worse by heat exposure to get access to cooling systems ahead of the summer months, and I encourage those in need in my district to apply,” said U.S. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
