WI Moratoriums End July 25

June 12, 2020 – Utilities across the country had recently implemented utility moratoriums amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Some states, such as Wisconsin, are ending those moratoriums at the end of July. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin voted to lift the moratorium on disconnections for nonpayment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customers who have fallen behind on payments or have received a disconnection notice are encouraged to contact their utility company to establish a payment plan and see if they may be eligible for the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP).

“When working out payment plans with customers, I strongly encourage utilities to provide extra flexibility for those whose lives and employment continue to be severely impacted by this disease,” said Rebecca Cameron Valcq, Chairperson of the Wisconsin PSC.
