MO’s Spire Adjusts Eligibility Requirements for Energy Assistance

July 24, 2020 – Spire, a natural gas provider in Missouri, is expanding their eligibility requirements in order to be able to assist more customers with energy assistance. The expansion of requirements for eligibility include a change from 0% to 135% of the federal poverty guidelines to 136% to 185% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Spire officials stated that they have seen a “big upswing,” in applications since the changes to eligibility requirements were made. More than 2,000 customers have applied since the program expansion, and it is expected that thousands more could be helped in the next several weeks.

Adriane Yates, director of customer business services for Spire, said, “I do think we’ll exhaust our funds or get really close by the end of September, which is great because that’s what we want to do, and we’ll take a look at other options.”
